Crowne Plaza Hotel, after Liberty Forum
Meeting called to order 9:13am
Attending: Carla, Varrin, Aaron (left at 10am), Seamas, Jody, Sharon, Rich (on skype)
1. Liberty Forum
Liberty Forum. Record ticket sales. VIP tickets work well; expenses matched revenues; Discovery Channel, New Yorker, and other media channels were here. We also had favorable local press. We invited speakers outside the traditional liberty circles, reaching into other demographics, and it was very well received. A tweet-up started the conference, and people were tweeting throughout the Forum. The conference organization team was great. People liked the magazine-style program. There were a lot of first time people attending. Attendees will be asked for feedback via an online survey. We don’t have final numbers for attendance yet, but one good indication was that the parking lot was sometimes full. In order to grow the conference, we’re exploring alternatives for next year.
In the dark months of winter, when the moon casts its light on canescent mounds of snow, the latter become fields of icy, glowing gems, riches to behold for the eyes of the careful observer. The angle must be just so to reap the rewards of this natural sacrament. This heightens the transcendence of the moment – the moment we realize that treasures surround us.
One must be observant to glimpse the majesty of nature. So too, the intrepid searcher of hidden restaurant treasures must be equally observant to find the amazing gastronomical gems that can be found in surprising places in New Hampshire. The Crystal Quail is one such gem.
The moment you've been waiting for is here! Our mover update project is complete and mover numbers have been assigned.
If you completed the mover number survey, you should have received an email with your mover number and your "in NH" number. Didn't get it? Check your spam account.
What is the difference between my mover number and my “in NH” number? The “in NH” number reflects your mover number plus the 273 people in New Hampshire that signed the Statement of Intent before New Hampshire was chosen. They can not be counted as movers, but are participants of the Free State Project. You may also note that the “Participants in NH” counter on our website reflects the number of both movers and those who signed our Statement of Intent before New Hampshire was chosen.
If you ordered a signer certificate, you will be happy to know your order will be shipped soon. Or, you can order your certificate now. They are also available in the 13in13 store, with all profits going to the Free State Project.
Liberty Forum is put together by the incredible efforts of a team of dedicated volunteers. If you see them around, be sure to thank them for their hard work, and maybe even buy them a beer!
Carolyn A was introduced to the Free State Project in 2010 when she attended her first PorcFest. She became a frequent visitor to New Hampshire, and finally made the move in June 2013. As Transportation Coordinator for Liberty Forum, she is responsible for arranging flights and safe and timely ground transportation for our speakers. This includes communicating any delays and reworking the schedule as necessary. If you are a speaker, and you made it to Liberty Forum, it’s thanks to Carolyn. If you didn’t, it’s on Mother Nature!
February 12, 2014 – Nashua, NH – Today the Free State Project announced additional tickets have been made available for its seventh annual Liberty Forum, New Hampshire’s premiere liberty conference. While Liberty Forum’s main focus is on the national surveillance state and whistleblowers, topics run the gamut from permaculture to crypto-currencies like bitcoin. This four-day conference will be held February 20-23, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nashua.
Thursday, February 20th events are free and open to the public. The scheduled talks, panels, and even a State House tour, include a welcome by FSP founder Jason Sorens, a talk by Redditor Bruce Fenton on Bitcoin, a talk on “How Money Walks,” a panel discussion on the death penalty, a class on “counterveillance,” and a social media Tweetup. The evening ends with Ignite Nashua, where 19 speakers will give 5-minutes talks to “Enlighten Us, But Make It Quick.”
It's time to get more signers! Thanks to a generous Free State Project supporter, $5 will be donated to the FSP for every verified signer we get between now and the end of Liberty Forum. If you have not signed the pledge yet, now is the time to do so! You know the FSP is your best chance of Liberty in Our Lifetime. We are the largest, most successful, voluntary mass migration liberty movement in the world. No more excuses, this is HAPPENING. Be part of history. If you have already signed up as a participant, what about your liberty-loving friends? Take the time to reach out personally to someone about the FSP today. What about your significant other? In some cases, only one spouse signed the pledge. Ask your partner to sign up too. How about your children who have turned 18 and who love the FSP? Get them to pledge as well. We have also discovered that some eager-beavers are moving without pledging. We are happy you are here, but please make the counter move. Every signer counts.
Liberty Forum is fast approaching. Now in its 7th year, with the theme "Watching the Watchers," Liberty Forum is set to be the biggest and best one yet. One thing that differentiates the Free State Project’s annual events from other liberty conferences is that we are focused on doing, acting, producing, changing. We don’t just talk about the problems; we work to fix them. One way to do this is to make fun of the state. And boy, did FSP participant Dan McCall do just that. The owner of Liberty Maniacs made a t-shirt bearing the NSA logo, modified to read "peeping while you're sleeping,” with the slogan "NSA: the only part of the government that actually listens." The NSA was not amused. They contacted the distributor demanding the product be removed from Zazzle’s site, saying, “Your product contained content which infringes upon the intellectual property rights of National Security Agency.”
Several months ago my friend and Free State Project compatriot Jenn Coffey let the word out that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer. She has bravely been blogging about the experience ever since. Although it has been painful and depressing to read, it has been educational for me; I really had no idea what a time-consuming, frustrating pain in the ass it is to get treated for cancer! It seems particularly ironic, in a haha-you’re-really-NOT-being-funny-universe kind of way that Jenn, of all people, has been sidelined with a life-threatening medical condition, because she is one of those seemingly larger-than-life individuals who seems to cram three times as much life into the allotted timeframe than the rest of us...
The Free State Project’s 7th annual conference’s theme is Watching the Watchers, and includes speeches by political activist Naomi Wolf, NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake and his attorney Jesselyn Radack, open-source 3D-printing gun activist Cody Wilson, and co-founder and executive director of the Freedom of the Press Foundation Trevor Timm, among others. Today the Free State Project announced the speakers at its seventh annual Liberty Forum, which will highlight political activism, whistleblowers, and solutions to the national security state. This year’s theme: Watching the Watchers. Regarded as one of the most prestigious liberty conferences worldwide, Liberty Forum will be held February 20-23, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nashua, and attracts speakers and attendees from across the globe. Buy your tickets now.
Among those focused on the principles of liberty, those passionate about changing the world, there is always debate. One topic that gets less attention is welfare. Most of us, if not all, tend to agree that charity is best given voluntarily, and we usually agree that the funding method the state uses--taxation--is immoral, if not outright violent. Usually the discussion ends there, and we sit back, self-satisfied. Taxation is theft, end of story. Now the world will get better, right? What commonly happens next is we are called cruel, Darwinist, unloving, uncharitable. We are accused of not caring about the needy, of wanting the poor/disabled/drug-addicted to die so we will finally have time to roll around in our giant piles of money, laughing maniacally.
If you have moved to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project, please take a moment to complete this survey before November 25th.
We recently sent this survey via an email to all known movers. If you did not receive that email, we may have lost contact with you, or, may not know that you moved. No need to do anything if you already responded to that email.
Once the survey data has been processed, a mover number will be assigned to you, and you will receive a message from us with your number in the coming weeks.
Once this step has been completed, mover numbers will be automatically assigned going forward. New movers will receive their mover number when they update their status to “moved” online.
Your mover number is a reflection of your commitment to more Liberty in Our Lifetime. The lower your number, the bigger your bragging rights! Whether you are one of the First 1,000 Movers, the next 1,000, or even one of the final movers, you are making history!
The Shining was a Disco-era bestseller from Maine's Master of Macabre, Stephen King, but it was the foreboding grandeur of the Overlook Hotel and Jack Nicholson's portrayal of dangerous dull-boy Jack Torrance that made The Shining a part of modern culture. While it was the Stanley Hotel in Colorado that reportedly inspired King, the author could have looked a lot closer to home for his supernatural stimulation.
The Free State Project, a mass migration movement to concentrate 20,000 liberty activists in New Hampshire is advancing to the finish line with more than 15,000 participants now signed up, with thousands moving ahead of schedule.
October 25, 2013 – Manchester, NH – Today, the Free State Project announced that 15,000 participants have now signed up to move to New Hampshire for more liberty. This mass migration movement aims to concentrate 20,000 liberty activists in the Live Free or Die state. At the current rate of sign-ups, the organization anticipates it will “Trigger the Move” in 2015, three years ahead of schedule.
“Reaching 75% of our goal is a major milestone,” said FSP president, Carla Gericke. “I attribute the acceleration in sign ups to things like the NSA surveillance scandal, the TSA, the NDAA, the PATRIOT Act, Obamacare, unconstitutional gun control legislation, and the unwarranted wars under both Bush and Obama. As America devolves into a police state, well-informed people are seeking safe havens. The FSP offers a proven strategy for individuals who are looking for more liberty within a community of like-minded people.”
The New Hampshire Freedom blog analyzes the latest New Hampshire Unemployment numbers:
"Another month, another drop in the New Hampshire unemployment rate. When 2013 started, the New Hampshire unemployment rate was 5.8%. Last month it was 5.1%. The August unemployment rate is 5%. We are talking 2008 levels. In fact, the last time the unemployment rate was this low in New Hampshire was December of 2008." More....
