Free State Project Statement Regarding Ian Freeman and Free Talk Live

Free State Project logo

The Free State Project (FSP) is a movement to get 20,000 pro-liberty activists to migrate to New Hampshire and work to limit the government’s role in society to the protection of individuals’ rights to life, liberty, and property. Two thousand participants have already moved, and 18,000 more have pledged to move within five years.

For over a decade, the radio program Free Talk Live (FTL) and its host Ian Freeman have had a marketing relationship with the FSP. Ian has convinced many people over the years of the value of libertarian ideals and of the potential for the Free State Project to achieve its mission of “Liberty in Our Lifetime.” He has likely brought more movers to New Hampshire than any other single individual. However, neither Ian Freeman nor FTL’s other hosts have ever been official spokespeople for the FSP.

In recognition of this value and in exchange for promotion, the FSP has had a long-standing agreement to provide FTL with event tickets for FTL hosts, sponsorship billing, and space to broadcast remotely during the events.

Liberty Forum Rocked Thanks to These Awesome People

On the TV show, The A-Team--one of the few shows that was broadcast on state-controlled South African television in the 1980s--John “Hannibal” Smith used to say: “I love it when a plan comes together.”

And, boy, did it come together this past weekend at the Free State Project’s 9th annual Liberty Forum, held February 18-21, 2016 at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Manchester, NH.

I always say, “It takes a Quillage,” and it really does! Most of the people who worked on bringing you the best Liberty Forum yet, volunteered their time. Hours and hours, week over week, month over month. They are the true stars of the event.

Says Angela Harris, lead organizer with husband Emmett:

“WOW, what a weekend! If you had told me a year ago that Emmett and I would be organizing the next Liberty Forum, and that not only would we have Edward Snowden as our keynote speaker, but that we would have already Triggered the Move weeks before, I would have told you were crazy – optimistic and cute, but crazy.”

Snowden Speaks at Free State Project's Liberty Forum in Libertarian NH

On February 20, 2016, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden addressed more than 500 attendees at the Free State Project's 9th annual NH Liberty Forum in Manchester, NH.

People gathered from across the globe to discuss practical ways to expand social and economic liberties. The conference also provided an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the Free Stater community in New Hampshire, where 20,000 libertarians are now moving.

Nick Gillespie of Reason TV interviewed Snowden live via Google Hangouts. Snowden was greeted by audience members holding masks bearing his likeness--this homage was received with a wide smile from Snowden in Russia.

It's Official! FSP President Carla Gericke's Speech from the Trigger the Move Press Conference

At 11AM this morning, Free State Project president Carla Gericke announced the FSP had reached its goal of recruiting 20,000 participants. Here is her speech from this morning's press conference held at the Radisson Hotel in the Queen City.

Five years ago, when I became president of the Free State Project after having organized two Porcupine Freedom Festivals, aka PorcFest, now one of the largest liberty gatherings in the world, the signer counter stood at nearly 11,000.

I calculated that all things being equal, we would Trigger the Move in 2018, and with 5 years for signers to move, it would be 2023--and I would be in my fifties!--before I would see the full effects of our historic mass migration movement.

Free State Project ‘Triggers the Move’: 20,000 Libertarians to Move to New Hampshire in Next 5 Years

What kind of impact will 20,000 liberty-loving people make when they move to a small state, like New Hampshire? The country will soon find out.

MANCHESTER, NH (PRWEB) FEBRUARY 03, 2016: As of today, The Free State Project is the most successful intentional migration movement in American history. This is because today the organization has announced that 20,000 participants have signed the Statement of Intent to move to New Hampshire, where they will “exert their fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of individuals’ rights to life, liberty and property.”

The 20,000 mark is significant, because it ‘triggers the move’ – the mass migration of the Free State Project participants who have all agreed to move to New Hampshire within the next five years. So far, almost 2,000 have already relocated to the state.

We Are the 99%!!!

This is IT! 99% to our goal of 20,000 signers! Today, we have 19,858 committed activists signed up! Nearly 2,000 have already moved and made massive strides to expand liberties in New Hampshire. What are YOU waiting for? Today, show YOUR support for our efforts by donating $9.99, $99 or $999 to our ‪‎Trigger the Move‬ fundraiser. Let's DO THIS!

As of this writing, the online fundraiser has: $14,410 USD, raised by 158 people in 1 month, 36% of $40,000 goal. Bitcoin donations as of Monday were approximately $1,200. 11 Extremely Weird Things People From New Hampshire Do

As a Free State Project participant and early mover, I call New Hampshire home by choice. As the Super Secret Project says in their song "Granite State of Mind": "I'm the new Salinger/Cuz I could live anywhere/But I choose to live here." I know it is home, because this list of "11 Extremely Weird Things People From New Hampshire Do" totally rang true! Read why we are weird at Only In Your State.

Meet the Early Movers! Jason Sorens, FSP Founder

When we set out to create the video for our new “Trigger The Move” crowdfunding campaign, we interviewed nearly 20 liberty activists who’d relocated to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project. Nowhere near all of the footage we shot made it into the final cut, but we wanted to share a few more examples of what FSP Early Movers are doing in their communities! It’s incredible to see all that’s being accomplished with just under 2,000 folks already here -- imagine when we get 20,000+ to make the move to NH!

As of this writing, the fundraising campaign has raised $12,555, donated by 126 people in 1 month. We are at 31% of $40,000 goal. Thank you to everyone who has donated. Your support is making this growth possible. To everyone else, we NEED YOUR SUPPORT now. Every little bit helps! Please make your most generous tax-deductible donation today!

Setting Stage for Libertarian Influx

Today's Concord Monitor, front page, above the fold:

“It’s a little bit like a Kickstarter model, right? Like, if 20,000 people say they’ll do it, then we’ll do it,” she said.

The first movers are making it easier for those who come after them. At least one Free Stater owns a real estate company, which he uses to help his fellow “porcupines,” as participants are nicknamed.

They also spring to action to help new movers unpack and get to know the area, and Gericke said there’s a buddy program that helps people find a mechanic or a doctor.

“Honestly, I’m glad it’s taken its time because people have laid a lot of groundwork. . . . Even though, yes, it’s taken over a decade, I think that it is actually going to benefit the movement as a whole,” she said.

"Keeping America Safe" Panel Discussion

Do events like this happen where you live? A panel discussion about foreign policy, moderated by John Stossel. From the Union Leader:

MANCHESTER — Are America’s actions overseas serving the country well? Have U.S. military interventions made the country more secure, at an acceptable cost — or have military actions proved too costly to American troops, the country’s principles and our financial future?

Education Choice is Foundation for Equal Opportunity

Christopher Sununu, who sits on the Executive Council, writes an op-ed about school choice in New Hampshire.

In New Hampshire, we see continued evidence of illogical behavior by the state. Our governor and her attorney general are seeking an injunction against the small town of Croydon, that has chosen to pay tuition for a tiny group of elementary students to attend a private school. The Croydon School District has seen fit to pay for five students to attend the Newport Montessori School, because it and the students’ parents have determined it is in the children’s best interest. That approach also happens to be less costly to Croydon taxpayers than the public school. However, the attorney general says that Croydon is violating the law, so now the town must raise money to fight the state in court.

95%: Less Than 1,000 Signers to Go!

We are making history! Now with less than 5% to go to securing the final signers--less than 1,000 liberty lovers!!!--NOW is the time to show your support for the Free State Project! Due to the slow rate of donations, we are exhausting our operating resources to fund the Facebook ads, and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Not only are we on track to Trigger the Move at an unprecedented rate, we are also making history by bringing you Edward Snowden--live from Russia--at Liberty Forum!

Escape to Liberty

Laissez Faire Today discovers the Free State Project, and Chris Campbell writes a compelling article about the viability of being part of the most audacious mass migration movement for more liberty in the world. Join now.

And the freedom of mobility, we believe, is one freedom you should take full advantage of if you’re serious about living free in an unfree world. (Unless, of course, you’re satisfied with your current location and are comfortable with its future. Which is great.)

The “best” place in the world is subjective. It depends on the individual. No place on Earth is perfect. And there will always be trade-offs no matter where you go.

But, no matter where it is, having a group of like-minded people with you will always enrich the experience.

And today, with billions of people only a click away, it’s more possible than ever to find a “tribe” of like-minded folks…

And even get them all to relocate to the same place.

94.3%--It's Happening Fast!

The Facebook advertising campaign is a smashing success! We gained another percentage point over the weekend, and the counter now stands at 18,865, 94.3% to our goal of 20,000 signers. While this is amazingly exciting, we can use YOUR support for our Trigger the Move fundraiser. Let's keep the momentum going!

Fundraising report as of this writing: $10,625 USD raised by 89 people in 22 days 27% of $40,000 goal.

Can't contribute financially? Help us get the word out by sharing and telling your friends! Come hear Edward Snowden speak at Liberty Forum starting on February 18, 2016 in downtown Manchester. Save the date for PorcFest, June 19-26, 2016.

The Free State Project is a 501(c)(3) organization; contributions are tax-deductible. Our tax ID number is 36-4668773.

School Choice: Why It Matters

Early movers Dr. Darren Tapp with Laura Bennett write about the Croydon school choice case:

Parents have found that Newport schools do not work for their children and thus wish to educate them elsewhere, including at private schools. The DoE’s injunction is not only robbing Croydon residents of their time and money, but it is — at its root— very opposed to the well-being of Croydon families since the injunction seeks to infringe on their right to make the best possible educational decisions for their children.

Read more at FreeCoast Online PLEASE NOTE: The hearing on the merits of the case has been postponed, and is no longer scheduled for January 13, 2016. Stay tuned for more details.
