President's Corner
June 1, 2007
Message from the President: See the video here.
Hello and welcome to the June 1st edition of the President's Corner. I'm in Shanghai, China. Behind me in the video is the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Jin Mao Tower, and, under construction, the Shanghai World Financial Center which is likely to be the 2nd tallest completed building in the world when it's done next year.
Getting right into the items of interest:
1: President's Corner announcements - I apologize delaying the posting of the May 10th edition. It is coming with this one. For those of you who watch via You Tube, there is a text version of this on the FSP website linked from You Tube here. I usually only announce first names in the video. If you want full names and email addresses, read this text version for all of that. Also, I apologize for the wind noise. This is the best I can do...
2: Volunteer Coordinator – welcome to Joshua Kuikahi , our new Volunteer Coordinator. He's hard at work finding volunteers for open positions and has found several already. We still have some positions open. Thanks to Lynn for her work on the NH Info pages. We need to find a new volunteer for that job, though. If you're interested in developing content for those pages, email Joshua. Also, we're looking for a President's Corner editor, who would watch the videos I make, transcribe them, edit them, put links in, and post them to the website as I've been doing. It would take an hour or two each time which is 2-3 times per month. We also still need an Events Coordinator, and Advertising Director. Email Joshua for details on any of these positions.
3: Porc Fest – Please register today ! We already have over 230 people registered and we're asking everyone to do that ahead of time. Unfortunately the bus tours are sold out. If you wanted to go on a bus tour, you missed your chance. To avoid missing out on other great stuff, register! Also, we're having a Doers Meeting on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. (---not--- Friday night as I mistakenly suggested on the video), followed by a 'Town Hall Meeting' at 8:30 p.m. If you're a volunteer and want to find out first hand what's going on with the FSP Organization, the Doers Meeting is for you. The Town Hall Meeting will cover more general FSP information. Most of the FSP leadership is going to be at both meetings to share the latest and greatest.
4: Stossel Interview – At Liberty Forum, we recorded a video segment of John Stossel interviewing Jason Sorens and myself . That video is now available online. It's a good introduction to the FSP. Check it out!
Spear, Varrin, and Rich: Varrin Swearingen, Spear Lancaster, and Rich Heller at the Reason Happy Hour, May 10, 2007
5: Reason in DC – Last Corner I reported from Washington DC about the Reason happy hour and presentation. Those events both went very well. Senator John Sununu (R-NH) made an appearance. He apparently found out that the FSP was having an event in Washington DC and decided to stop by to say hello. He expressed his regrets for missing the Liberty Forum and indicated he'd try to make it to a future FSP event. So Hi to all of you from Senator Sununu. Also in attendance were several other FSP Participants including Spear Lancaster and Rich Heller. Many Thanks to Lynn Pina and Peter Eyre for the behind the scenes work to make it all happen, and, of course, to the fine folks at Reason for being such wonderful hosts!
Varrin Swearingen and John Sununu: Varrin Swearingen and John Sununu at the Reason Happy Hour, May 10, 2007
6: Welcome Wagon – If you're visiting or moving to New Hampshire, please contact the Welcome Wagon. It seems as though the Welcome Wagon is hearing less often about people coming to visit or move to New Hampshire. There are people all over the state who are ready to help you out with information about the state and put you in touch with various groups that might interest you. And if you're moving, people might just show up and help you carry a few boxes! So if you're coming to New Hampshire, email Margot or any of the regional coordinators on the Welcome Wagon page .
That's all for this edition. From Shanghai, this has been the President's Corner. I hope to see you all at Porc Fest. Don't forget to register!
