NH Liberty Forum Welcomes a Strong and Growing Free State Project
For Immediate Release
March 3, 2009
America's boldest pro-liberty experiment, the Free State Project, is moving into 2009 with real momentum. With more than 9100 members and nearly 700 of them now in New Hampshire, and those numbers climbing daily, the project is nearing the halfway mark of its goal of 20,000 participants.
Members have been starting businesses, creating newspapers and television shows, running political campaigns, winning elections, buying property, forming sports clubs and a host of other activities. The Free State Projects’ third annual Liberty Forum opens this week in the midst of all this activity and excitement.
“With all the bad news from Washington and about the economy, it’s nice to find a shining example of growth and success with the FSP”, said Varrin Swearingen, the FSP president. “New Hampshire is a relatively bright spot in a poor national economy, with so many natural entrepreneurs moving here, things should only get better.”
Activities start on Thursday with a firearms safety lesson at Wilson Hill pistol club, followed by a field trip to the NH State House in Concord. In the evening will be an opening reception featuring live comedy and presentations. From Friday to Sunday, the Forum features multiple speaker and topic tracks ranging from education reform, the second amendment, drug policy, taxation, building coalitions, to recent election winners, and more.
Most of the FSP leadership will be there, as well as many recent and early movers. The speakers will be highlighting both the practical aspects of creating a life of liberty and highlighting the latest victories and challenges in the struggle for liberty in America today. “The fresh lineup of new speakers for this year shows the great depth in the field of liberty, both academically and in on the street activism”, said Chris Lawless, Forum organizer.
Friday’s keynote speaker is Dr. Mary Ruwart, author of “Healing our World” and a 2008 Libertarian Party presidential contender. Saturday’s keynote speaker is Richard "Dick" Heller, of the D.C. vs Heller case that successfully overturned the handgun ban and affirmed that gun ownership is an individual right. Sunday’s closing speaker is Stefan Molyneux, essayist, author, and host of the “Freedomain Radio” podcast, giving his first public presentation in decades.
The members are motivated. “I think we’re at the tipping point, I really feel the FSP is about to take off. We’re here to make some noise. If we get enough thinking people together with common cause we can change the world”, said Serene “Peaceful” Sargent, who arrived on Sunday as the newest mover.
The NH Liberty Forum runs Thursday March 5 to Sunday March 8, 2009 in Nashua, NH. A full schedule, speakers list and more are at http://www.freestateproject.org/libertyforum
