July 2011 Board Meeting Minutes

FSP Board Meeting

July 24, 2011

Attending: Rich Goldman, Jody Underwood, Carla Gericke, Brandon Ross (8:15)

Meeting started around 8pm

Agenda

Treasurer; FreedomFest; website hacking fix; PF, past, future; LF update; Libertopia; LibertyFest NYC

No quorum, so informational meeting.

Treasurer:

· Two people are currently being considered: Seamas Oscalaidhe and Merav Yaakov. Jody knows both, Mark Warden recommends Seamas. Merav lives in-state, Seamas doesn’t.

· Jody will contact both of them.

· But first: Need a description of responsibilities and skills from Cathleen.

· Someone mentioned having an in-state person so it’s easier to interact with them.

· The treasurer does not have to be a board position, especially since we don't know the potential candidates well. Can try a “test run” of some sort.

Freedom Fest

· Carla wrote a short report on FB in Doers.

· Thanks to Carla and Mark Warden for doing a great job!

FSP Meeting 05/15/11 8pm on skype Attending: Rich Goldman, Cathleen Converse, Jody Underwood, Brandon Ross, Varrin Swearingen

Agenda: Establish regular meeting times again and discuss if/what we want to do at PorcFest

Proposed Regular Meeting time: Third Monday of every other month at 8pm. Run it by Carla and Steve before deciding.

What the FSP should do at PorcFest: Meeting at PF (when?) Donor lunch tentatively scheduled Saturday at 1pm. Invitations going out soon.

History of the FSP, maybe tied into a more general Meet the board.
A slot set up for us is Saturday 11-1, so include a picnic BYO-lunch. The final idea is: What's Right/Wrong with the FSP? Want to share your issues and suggestions with the Board of Directors of the FSP? Curious about the organization of the Free State Project? Come meet with us (though, save your best rants for the Soap Box idol)

Meeting adjourned at 8:58pm.

Gary Johnson: The FSP Is a Wonderful Idea

2011 Endorsement: Gary Johnson, former Governor of New Mexico and current candidate for President, attended PorcFest 2011 and was asked about the FSP. He said it's "a wonderful idea" and he hopes "it will be a model for the rest of the country.
(Video attached).

2012 Endorsement: "Yea! Go Free State Project. Wow. What a model. What a terrific model. When I was governor of new Mexico, the Free State Project came to my attention [...2]0,000 people who said they're going to relocate in some area in the United States, get elected to all the offices and basically "hands off" when it comes to the government. Very very very libertarian, if not anarchist. Anarchist being complete government void. No government! well, Terrific! I wanted to see that happen in New Mexico, it's now happening in New Hampshire. Good thing. Really a terrific thing. I just applaud the Free State project. I look forward to successes from the Free State Project that the country emulates." Full video here.

Lew Rockwell Enthusiastically Supports the FSP

In an hour-long interview on Keene’s syndicated talk radio show, Free Talk Live, Lew called Keene “The northern capital of libertarianism” and suggested it was the epicenter of NH liberty activism. Lew identified himself as an “enthusiastic supporter” of the Free State Project, saying, “I definitely endorse the Free State Project."

Lew Rockwell is the founder of the Mises Institute and the most popular liberty-oriented website in the world, LewRockwell.com.

Libertarian Party of Tennessee Recognizes the Activism of FSP Members

"As the Secretary of the Libertarian Party of Tennessee, I have been asked to send notification to you regarding a recent resolution that was an endorsement of the goals of the Free State Project that was introduced at our 2010 state convention on Saturday, March 27, 2010. The wording of the resolution reads:

"The Libertarian Party of Tennessee formally endorses the stated goals and outstanding activism demonstrated by the dedicated membership of the Free State Project.'

"Yours in Liberty, Ray Ledford Secretary, Libertarian Party of Tennessee"

Lloyd's move story

On Grafton Pond

When I first heard about the Free State Project I felt the same excitement that I experienced when I heard they were forming a National Libertarian Party back in early 1972. I had hopes the party would bring the libertarian philosophy into the mainstream. Well, that didn’t happen:)

I joined the FSP about a year after it was formed. I assumed that Alaska or another Western state would win and although I wasn’t moving out of New England, I was willing to support the organization in any way I could. When I got on the forum I realized that NH had a good chance of winning, decided on moving here then, and, now we know the outcome:)

Living in Hartford and Windsor, Connecticut, I was never more than a few hours from almost any NH event and I spent quite a bit of time day tripping to meet and greets and other events particularly in Keene and at the Jim & Lauren build in Winchester.

Dan's Moving Story

Even when facing the daunting activist-commute from Rhode Island, Dan made himself a key Ron Paul volunteer in New Hampshire. Now he's here full-time.

Dr. Mary Ruwart Absolutely Endorses the FSP

"I've heard a lot about it, I think it's a great idea, that's how we can get a concentrated dose of libertarianism in one state, and hopefully make a change in that state. Does the Free State Project have Dr. Mary Ruwart's endorsement? Absolutely!"

Dr. Mary Ruwart was a 2008 candidate for the Libertarian Party presidential ticket, and author of Healing Our World.

Here is her interview on libertarian radio program Free Talk Live. She was also a keynote speaker at the 2009 New Hampshire Liberty Forum. Watch the video interview of Dr. Ruwart at that event.

Carla's Moving Story

Carla jumps out of the South African frying pan and lands in the American fire. But in New Hampshire she's found the least bad part of America.
