PorcFest 2009

It's not too late to register for the 6th annual Porcupine Freedom Festival happening June 25th through the 28th in Lancaster, New Hampshire. But make it quick! We're less than two weeks away from the biggest PorcFest ever! Whether your idea of fun is partying in a large crowd or chatting around a campfire with a handful of friends, PorcFest provides a variety of activities to suit any personality and preference. With so much to do, you'll want to arrive early to get it all in.

Breaking the Ice:

PorcFest makes it easy to meet people and make friends. Thursday night is the SAKAL CAI Launch Party, where you'll have the opportunity to meet New Hampshire natives, early FSP movers, and future FreeStaters. Other mixer events include the road rally ice-breaker, Liberty Ladies' One-pot Cook-off, communal lunches and dinners, and Alec's Ice Cream Social. Bring your questions for the First Movers Panel and come meet the FSP Board. And don't miss the group photo on Saturday evening!

Summer Fun:

Enjoy the peace and beauty of New Hampshire in the summertime. Groove to live music on the lawn. Get a massage. Participate in a kickball or volleyball game. Shoot firearms, play miniature golf, or toss the Frisbee around. Kids can participate in the first ever Porc Olympics!

Outdoor Excursions:

Venture beyond Roger's Campground and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Northern New Hampshire and the famous White Mountains. Enjoy a hike, go geocaching, or take a bus tour to some of the Granite State's liberty hot spots.

Indoor Activities:

Check out the exhibitors and bid on swag at the Silent Auction. Learn more about liberty-oriented topics like Agorism, Voluntaryism, and States' Rights. Be part of the Free Talk Live audience. Watch a late night movie. And don't miss Soapbox Idol, your chance to rant about the liberty topic of your choice.

Relaxation and Camaraderie:

Come to PorcFest to relax and have a drink around the campfire. Participate in board and card games. Relax in the hot tub and take a dip in the pool. Hang out by the bonfire and meet the activists who are making a change. Soak up the atmosphere that comes from hundreds of freedom lovers getting together to celebrate Liberty in Our Lifetime.

To book your accommodation, call Roger's at 603-788-4885 or visit them online at www.rogerscampground.com/. For more information about this year's event, visit the PorcFest website. Register today!

The Philosophy of Libery

The famous Flash animation "Introduction to the Philosophy of Liberty" (PoL) is being relaunched in over 30 languages. In a two-year effort led by long-time FSP organizer Steve Cobb and involving two Russian developers, the PoL was rearchitected to easily incorporate translations in languages as diverse as Arabic and Afrikaans (the latter provided by the FSP's own Louis Calitz). The animation text comes from the epilogue of Ken Schoolland's classic "The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible," whose web site www.jonathangullible.com was just relaunched by Drew Suder. Drew is also providing the animation in various video formats for wider distribution. You can find the new animation on the JG web site, and soon on the site of the International Society for Individual Liberty. Be on the lookout for a porcupine that somehow wandered into one of the frames. ;)

Merchandise

New stickers, new balloons, a re-new place for PorcFest! All the wonderful FSP mercandise will be at PorcFest. You can help us by saving on shipping costs. You can help yourself to fantastic FSP goods. You can help spread the word about the FSP. Go ahead, handle the goods. Feel the fine cotton fabric of the shirts. Enjoy the heft of the shiny key chain with the FSP logo. Marvel at the fine workmanship on the Buck custom FSP knive (not so many left now, you might want to get one soon). We'll even let you test-fly the Gadsden Porc version of the Ultimate brand flying disc (OK, ok, I know it's a 'frisbee', just not Frisbee :). From insulated beverage holders to author-signed books to flags to wristbands and major league-cute, stuffed porcupine hand-puppets. Yes, we may be out of hats, mugs, and tote-bags, but we have plenty of other way-boss swag to tell the world that we want Liberty in Our Lifetime.

The Free State Project is an effort to recruit 20,000 liberty-loving people to move to New Hampshire. We are looking for neighborly, productive, tolerant folks from all walks of life, of all ages, creeds, and colors who agree to the political philosophy expressed in our Statement of Intent, that government exists at most to protect people's rights, and should neither provide for people nor punish them for activities that interfere with no one else. freestateproject.org

In New Hampshire

Legislative Successes

  • We now have four early-moving porcupines elected to the NH House of Representatives!
  • Once again, the big money and the Federal government did their best to pass a seat belt law in New Hampshire. And once again, Free-Staters were the prime movers responsible for defeating the seat-belt law! That's right, in New Hampshire, buckling up is common sense and your choice as an adult. For more details, visit the NH Liberty Alliance.
  • NH now has equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. A number of Free-Staters helped this effort; see the NH Coalition for Equal Rights for details.
  • Medical marijuana legalization has passed the House and Senate, and will be landing on the Governor's desk shortly! This success was in part due to hundreds of Free-Staters who contacted their State Reps and Senators, and due to the great work of the NH Coalition for Commonsense Marijuana Policy.
