PorcFest Planning

Yeah! PorcFest 2008 will be the week of June 9th-15th at Gunstock Mountain Resort. Make your campsite or hotel reservations ASAP. Laconia Bike Week will start June 14th (and end June 22nd) and so there will be increased demand that weekend. Our weekend is not the main Bike Week weekend, but once things are sold out, that’s it. See full Lodging details for PorcFest 2008.

If there is an event or speaker you'd like to see at PorcFest, please email a description and we'll work to make it happen. Similarly, if you have ideas about how to improve PorcFest, want to have the inside scoop on what's going on, or would like to do some volunteer work for the FSP, then join the PorcFest 2008 Yahoo Planners Group.

The initial draft of the PorcFest 2008 website is up. If you have web development skills and would like to help spruce it up or simply have ideas you'd like to see us try to implement, please email us. .

For promotional purposes, we want pictures and testimonials of those who attended PorcFest 2007. If you still haven't uploaded your pictures from PorcFest 2007 yet, please either do so here or email them to Rich Goldman. As for testimonials (i.e. good quotes we can attribute to people) please email them in soon. Summer is on its way

Photo Contest Winner

Lou Eastman was the winner of the Fall Foliage Photo Contest! His photos are featured throughout this issue of the newsletter and his Porcupine Puppet prize is on its way. New Hampshire sure is stunning in the Fall...and in the Summer, Winter and Spring!

Fundraising Campaign

"Perfect Storm" - FSP, Liberty Forum and New Hampshire Primary. Every presidential candidate is taking every opportunity to be seen in New Hampshire. The media is swarming into our state. Our country stands at a tipping point: a nudge in the right direction, at the right place, at the right time, will change history forever. The right direction is freedom, the key place is New Hampshire and the time is Jan 3 - thought 8th. The time has come for true patriots who love freedom to join together, to make our mark. Please, give generously to the campaign, designed specifically to take maximum advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity! - Irena Goddard

500th Free Stater in NH!

You may have heard of Trevor Lyman, a key man behind the huge 5th of November fundraiser for Ron Paul and other supporting events - he was the 500th Free Stater in New Hampshire! Trevor joins a fast-growing number of Participants in New Hampshire as the 500th - a milestone on our way to thousands of activists in the Free State. As of publication, the number of Porcupine activists that now live in NH and have updated their address is up to 505. Welcome to New Hampshire!

The Ron Paul campaign has brought the FSP new Participants and Friends and has also given us some good media coverage. The FSP and the Liberty Forum were mentioned in this new article in The New American - The Doctor is Calling in New Hampshire. And, New Hampshire comes in first in this new analysis of the Freedom IQ of each state. More FSP media coverage is posted on the FSP Forum, along with NH news. More NH news sources.

The Free State Project is an effort to recruit 20,000 liberty-loving people to move to New Hampshire. We are looking for neighborly, productive, tolerant folks from all walks of life, of all ages, creeds, and colors who agree to the political philosophy expressed in our Statement of Intent, that government exists at most to protect people's rights, and should neither provide for people nor punish them for activities that interfere with no one else. freestateproject.org

Action of the Month – Straight Speaking

There’s no hidden message in this month’s “Action of the Month” (Did anyone noticed it last month? :). Instead of some drawn-out, arcane prose, let’s use a simple chart:

Well-meaning, innocent, minding-their-own-business Word

Common usage in the current statist/media vernacular

Common usage by honest, liberty-loving people

Investment

Money spent on society to make the world a better place. (Often used in conjunction with the phrase “for the children”)

Tax, i.e. impost, levy, monetary extraction, pay-or-we’ll-throw-you-in-jail

(Keeping in mind, “Society’s” bank account has no number)

Public School

Wonderful centers of education, with child-centered administrations, unbiased curricula, and supplied at no cost.

Government School –

1) Fiscal black holes with an ever-expanding event horizon. 2) Union-Controlled works program 3) Puerile Indoctrination centers.

DoublePlusGood

Rarely used. (This would bring too much attention to the fact that, while not destroying or removing words from the dictionary, but by perverting words and collapsing their meanings, they are doing the same thing)

Not applicable (As we all know; ‘Oldthinkers unbellyfeel Ingsoc”. Therefore, Porcs and related beings would probably say something more like “Way wicked cool” :)

The Free State

Contrived, fallacious nickname for the state of Maryland.

Intrinsic, genuine element of the wonderful state of New Hampshire

I’m sure we all could add quite a few words to this list. The point is to make sure we correct all of the badthinkers (socialists) when they use a term that clouds the issue or mangles the English language, twisting it to fit their obviously twisted worldview. Letters to the editor, polite corrections at the holiday cocktail party, or screaming out the window that you’re “Mad as hell and not taking it any longer”, all good ways to help correct the slide towards serfdom. - Phil Denisch

Free State Shooting Match - The Big Bull

Free State Match logo The politicking season is heading our way. The candidates will spread out across the country like a plague of locust chewing and jawing their way into our lives and wallets. There's little stopping it (just the Free State Project, of course :). There will also be an attendant swarm of pundits, commentators, bloggers, and prognosticators bloviating their way from one coast t'other. Hunker down in your compound as you may, there is no escape. Like an a'a lava flow of hot smelly, bovine excrement suffocating everything in their path, they're coming. But before we get too depressed, let's have a little fun. An easy shoot this time around, The Big Bull. A single, large bull's-eye, with twenty chances to score a hit. Each shot in the black scores one, maximum score of 20. Categories for pistols and rifles (scoped and un). - Phil

Merchandise

Bringing in the new year with a new item. If all goes well, we'll have a new item for sale at the New Hampshire Liberty Forum. Silicone wrist bands in small, medium, and large sizes. They're easy to wear all day long and oh, so fashionable. Be prepared with a clever answer when someone asks, "Hey, what's that really cool-looking wristband you're wearing?". It's a great way to get the conversation going. We'll have them on the merchandise page after the NHLF. But that's no excuse for visiting the store now to get all those last-minute gifts and gear for your trip to the Free State and the NHLF - you are going, aren't you? - Phil
